It is southwest of Bristol city centre. Built on the site of a former RAF airfield, it opened in 1957 as Bristol (Lulsgate) Airport, replacing Bristol (Whitchurch) Airport as Bristol's municipal airport. From 1997 to 2010, it was known as Bristol International Airport.

The airport also houses the Bulgarian Air Force's Vrazhdebna Air Base. On 16 September 1937, Tsar Boris III signed a decree which declared land within the Village of Vrazhdebna be allocated for the construction of an airport.

Birmingham Airport , formerly Birmingham International Airport, is an international airport located east-southeast of Birmingham city centre, west-northwest of Coventry slightly north of Bickenhill village, in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, England. Officially opened as Elmdon Airport on 8 July 1939, the airport was requisitioned by the Air Ministry during the Second World War and used by both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Navy as RAF Elmdon. It was largely used for flight training and wartime production purposes.

It is also named Sandro Pertini Airport (Aeroporto Sandro Pertini), after former Italian President Sandro Pertini. The airport was built in 1953, on the site of a World War II air base, and was renovated in 1989 for the 1990 FIFA World Cup and then again in 2005 in preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Brindisi Airport (Aeroporto di Brindisi), also known as Brindisi Papola Casale Airport and Salento Airport, is an airport in Brindisi, in southern Italy, located from the city center. This airport was originally established as a military airbase in the 1920s. The first commercial flights serving Rome began in the 1930s with the establishment of the Ala Littoria in 1934. After World War II, Alitalia took over the route and added a flight to Catania.
