Urban green space

In land-use planning, urban green space is open-space areas reserved for parks and other "green spaces", including plant life, water features - also referred to as blue spaces - and other kinds of natural environment. Most urban open spaces are green spaces, but occasionally include other kinds of open areas. The landscape of urban open spaces can range from playing fields to highly maintained environments to relatively natural landscapes. Generally considered open to the public, urban green spaces are sometimes privately owned, such as higher education campuses, neighborhood/community parks/gardens, and institutional or corporate grounds. Areas outside city boundaries, such as state and national parks as well as open space in the countryside, are not considered urban open space. Ridesourcing services are gaining gradual hypes with the advancements in mobile internet and technology. The objective of these services is to mainly match and dispatch operating vehicles to waiting requests within a very short duration. The expectations that service users have today are becoming more and more exigent. Potential passengers input their destinations into an application and expect to be matched shortly after. This paves a way for a dynamic denition of the problem with expanding complexity. From an operational point of view, nding an optimal solution for the entire system is nearly impossible because of the continuous arrival of requests. In fact, vehicles in a network usually roam around until being directed towards a pickup location. These purposeless movements however may have signicant impacts on the trac, particularly in urban spaces. Furthermore, empty vehicle kilometers have a considerable environmental cost without serving a particular purpose. In this report, we suggest a simulated annealing for solving the dynamic matching assignment problem all while accounting for the previously stated issues. Our objective is to maximize eet utilization and service level, and minimizing the waiting time of requests. Constant reoptimization runs are performed to accommodate requests that arrive over time. Compared to the more standard nearest available vehicle assignments, the method provided showed an increase in eet utilization and a decrease in the abandonment rate. i

A section cuts through BÜMPLIZ-BETHLEHEM – western periphery district of the city of Bern. The drawing shows fragments of a picturesque garden city, cheap and simple Kriegssiedlungen, post-World War II serial houses, CIAM-influenced large-scale ensembles and vestiges of a former farming village cohabiting side by side. The patchwork-like urban body of BÜMPLIZ-BETHLEHEM appears in section as a linear succession of very diverse city spaces and transition moments. This comprehension of the city as a "sequence" of different spatial conditions is reflected in the project. The project organizes an urban sequence from the old village through a 1970ies' large-scale housing ensemble to the railway station. The transformation of the Fellergut's fissured interior landscape and the implantation of Bern's civil registry office turn the "Grosssiedlung" into urban space.

Tabriz - La mixité programmatique dans le contexte d'une ville islamique (Iran)

Dramatic growth of urban populations in the developing countries is being a challenging issue in the upcoming decades. Tabriz is one of those megacities in the northwest of Iran with a rapid rate of development and modernization. As a consequence an urban-social segregation is being formed in the southeast of the city. To hinder such segregation a mix program that combines the traditional aspects of the urban development and modern life styles is proposed. Within this respect a residential complex built in 1960's in the southeast of the city is chosen to analyze and devise a plan for the redevelopment of the site with an induce on the district. The complex is the core of the development of the district that indeed differs from the neighboring sites in the manner of typology, density and diversity. The objective of the project is to generate a mix program of activities with the concept of the ancient Bazaar of Tabriz. It is to valorize the original aspects of the site in correlation with modern life styles. The project is based on the presence of activities, which participate to the reinvention of public space and contribute to the construction of an urban passage. The proposition is to introduce a mix structure of commerce, offices and housing to requalify the urban spaces by creating interrelations with the activities of the site and the district.
