A spreadsheet is a computer application for computation, organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form. Spreadsheets were developed as computerized analogs of paper accounting worksheets. The program operates on data entered in cells of a table. Each cell may contain either numeric or text data, or the results of formulas that automatically calculate and display a value based on the contents of other cells. The term spreadsheet may also refer to one such electronic document. Spreadsheet users can adjust any stored value and observe the effects on calculated values. Energy Savings for Cellular Network with Evaluation of Impact on Data Traffic Performance

We present a concrete methodology for saving energy in future and contemporary cellular networks. It is based on re-arranging the user-cell association so as to allow shutting down under-utilized parts of the network. We consider a hypothetical static case where we have complete knowledge of stationary user locations and thus the results represent an upper bound of potential energy savings. We formulate the problem as a binary integer programming problem, thus it is NP-hard, and we present a heuristic approximation method. We simulate the methodology on an example real cellular network topology with traffic- and user distribution generated according to recently measured patterns. Further, we evaluate the energy savings, using realistic energy profiles, and the impact on the user-perceived network performance, represented by delay and throughput, at various times of day. The general findings conclude that up to 50% energy may be saved in less busy periods, while the performance effects remain limited. We conclude that practical, real-time user-cell re-allocation methodology, taking into account user mobility predictions, may thus be feasible and bring significant energy savings at acceptable performance impact.

A spreadsheet framework for medical visualization

The goal of this research work is to investigate and develop a framework for medical visualization, answering the needs of both end users (clinicians), working in their specific domain, and application designers, who build applications and visualizations for them. Most flexible visualization systems currently available are based on the dataflow paradigm. Dataflow-based systems suffer from a poor management of the screen real estate, which is a problem for end users. In order to deal with this problem, spreadsheet-based visualization systems –which are a generalization of conventional spreadsheets– were introduced. In comparison with dataflow-based visualization systems, spreadsheet based systems spend their screen space on operands rather than operators, which are usually more interesting to the user. We proposed a spreadsheetbased framework for interactive medical visualization. This framework is analyzed with regard to its usability and validated with concrete medical use cases. We have also investigated specific visualization methods and interaction techniques to answer the needs of clinicians. We used a multilevel color-mapping of scalar values on models of organ for effectively comparing bones even if the data set contain errors. We proposed also a method for organizing high-dimensional data sets that are difficult to explore on a two dimensional layout. A haptic rendering application is also presented for investigating the use of haptics for providing the clinicians with tools that allow them to "touch" and "feel" the virtually simulated tissues in addition to their visual rendering.

In this paper, we present our spreadsheet framework, which uses a spreadsheet-like interface for exploring biomedical datasets. The principles and advantages of this class of visualization systems are illustrated, and a case study for the analysis of hip joint congruity is presented.
