Model-based Systems Engineering Papers Analysis based on Word Cloud Visualization

With the continuous improvement of system scale and complexity, model-based system engineering (MBSE) is of great importance in the practice of system engineering (SE). MBSE has been widely concerned in industry, especially in the field of complex equipment. At the same time, in academia, research articles about MBSE come into being and grow rapidly. In this paper, keywords and full-texts of 143 high quality articles related to MBSE field are extracted from relevant journals of IEEE and INCOSE communities, and the research contents of MBSE field are visualized and analyzed by using a thirdparty Python WordCloud library. The research focuses on: (a) identifying related concepts of MBSE; (b) exploring research contents of MBSE; (c) analyzing three pillars of MBSE: modeling languages, methods and tools based on articles. The results show that MBSE plays an important role in realizing system architecture design and developing system architecture models by applying modeling technology to support system requirements, design, analysis and evaluation, verification and validation in the whole life cycle of product development. SysML and OPM are the most popular modeling languages and modeling methods in MBSE research field respectively. This paper provides a technical route reference for exploring the current research field of MBSE by using WordCloud text analysis which is helpful to predict the future research of MBSE.

Digital Twins (DT) are proposed in industries to support the entire lifecycle of services with different perspectives. Lack of systematic analysis of DT concepts leads to various definitions and services which challenges the DT developers for data integration and integrated service delivery. In this paper, a systems engineering approach is proposed to identify the requirements of DT in order to formalize the DT concepts from a systematic perspective. The conceptual architecture of DT is defined based on ISO standard 42010. Several concepts are captured to recognize DT, to define related terminologies, and to identity concerns and viewpoints in order to provide cues for delivering DT services to industry. This approach is evaluated by multiple industrial use-cases under the Innosuisse IMPULSE project, from which one-use case is selected for further elaboration. It contributes to the development of DT associated to the use-case by addressing the requirements of DT using a semi-formal approach.

Computational design of novel protein–protein interactions – An overview on methodological approaches and applications

Protein–protein interactions (PPIs) govern numerous cellular functions in terms of signaling, transport, defense and many others. Designing novel PPIs poses a fundamental challenge to our understanding of molecular interactions. The capability to robustly engineer PPIs has immense potential for the development of novel synthetic biology tools and protein-based therapeutics. Over the last decades, many efforts in this area have relied purely on experimental approaches, but more recently, computational protein design has made important contributions. Template-based approaches utilize known PPIs and transplant the critical residues onto heterologous scaffolds. De novo design instead uses computational methods to generate novel binding motifs, allowing for a broader scope of the sites engaged in protein targets. Here, we review successful design cases, giving an overview of the methodological approaches used for templated and de novo PPI design.
