Roland LongchampRoland Longchamp is Professor of Automatic Control and Director of the Automatic Control Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). He received his Diploma in Electrical Engineering and his Ph.D. degree both from EPFL. He was appointed as Postdoctoral Fellow, first at the Information Systems Laboratory, Stanford University, and then at the Decision and Control Laboratory, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, working in the areas of nonlinear systems, estimation theory and predictive control. He was with the Asea Brown Boveri Company in Turgi, Switzerland, involved in the field of on-line control of large power systems. He joined EPFL in 1983, where his current research interests include control of linear systems, adaptive control, robust control, with applications to mechatronic systems. He served as Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1991-1993 and as Director of the Automatic Control Laboratory for the periods 1986-1993 and 1997-2003. He is Editor of the EPFL Press Mechanical Engineering Series since 1996.
François AvellanProf. François Avellan, director of the EPFL Laboratory for Hydraulic Machines, graduated in Hydraulic Engineering from Ecole nationale supérieure d'hydraulique, Institut national polytechnique de Grenoble, France, in 1977 and, in 1980, got his doctoral degree in engineering from University of Aix-Marseille II, France. Research associate at EPFL in 1980, he is director of the EPFL Laboratory for Hydraulic Machines since 1994 and, in 2003, was appointed Ordinary Professor in Hydraulic Machinery. Supervising 37 EPFL doctoral theses, he was distinguished by SHF, Société hydrotechnique de France, awarding him the "Grand Prix 2010 de l'hydrotechnique". His main research domains of interests are hydrodynamics of turbine, pump and pump-turbines including cavitation, hydro-acoustics, design, performance and operation assessments of hydraulic machines. Prof. Avellan was Chairman of the IAHR Section on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems from 2002 to 2012. Furthermore, he is involved in scientific expertise and independent contractual experimental validations of turbines and pump turbines performances for the main hydropower plants in the world. In recognition for his work as Convenor of the TC4 working group of experts in editing the IEC 60193 standard he received the "IEC 1906 Award" from the International Electrotechnical Commission. Nikolaos GeroliminisProf. Nikolas Geroliminis is an Associate Professor at EPFL and the head of the Urban Transport Systems Laboratory (LUTS). Before joining EPFL he was an Assistant Professor on the faculty of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He has a diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and a MSc and Ph.D. in civil engineering from University of California, Berkeley. He is an Associate Editor for Transportation Research part C and he also serves in the editorial board of TR, part B, Transportation Letters, Journal of ITS and of many international conferences. He is a member of the Transportation Research Board's Traffic Flow Theory Committee. His research interests focus primarily on urban transportation systems, traffic flow theory and control, public transportation and logistics, Optimization and Large Scale Networks. He is a recent recipient of the ERC Starting Grant METAFERW: Modeling and controlling traffic congestion and propagation in large-scale urban multimodal networks

Yingzhao LianYingzhao graduated with a MSc in Mechanical Enginerring from EPFL in 2018. He specialized in optimization and learning theory. He jointly conducted his master’s thesis with the Automatic Control Lab, EPFL and ABB Corporate Research, Baden, where he investigated the problem of data-driven model based optimal control. In August 2018, he joined the Automatic Control Laboratory at EPFL as a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Colin Jones.
