Carlyle circle
In mathematics, a Carlyle circle is a certain circle in a coordinate plane associated with a quadratic equation; it is named after Thomas Carlyle. The circle has the property that the solutions of the quadratic equation are the horizontal coordinates of the intersections of the circle with the horizontal axis. Carlyle circles have been used to develop ruler-and-compass constructions of regular polygons.
Cleaver (geometry)
In geometry, a cleaver of a triangle is a line segment that bisects the perimeter of the triangle and has one endpoint at the midpoint of one of the three sides. They are not to be confused with splitters, which also bisect the perimeter, but with an endpoint on one of the triangle's vertices instead of its sides. Each cleaver through the midpoint of one of the sides of a triangle is parallel to the angle bisectors at the opposite vertex of the triangle. The broken chord theorem of Archimedes provides another construction of the cleaver.
Equidiagonal quadrilateral
In Euclidean geometry, an equidiagonal quadrilateral is a convex quadrilateral whose two diagonals have equal length. Equidiagonal quadrilaterals were important in ancient Indian mathematics, where quadrilaterals were classified first according to whether they were equidiagonal and then into more specialized types. Examples of equidiagonal quadrilaterals include the isosceles trapezoids, rectangles and squares. Among all quadrilaterals, the shape that has the greatest ratio of its perimeter to its diameter is an equidiagonal kite with angles π/3, 5π/12, 5π/6, and 5π/12.
