Villes chinoises en mutation, habiter l'enceinte du chantier

La Chine s'urbanise très rapidement, les sites de construction emploient, de ce fait, plus de 5 % de la population active. Ces ouvriers, souvent d'origine rurale, sont amenés à se déplacer sur le territoire, de chantier en chantier, selon les opportunités de travail. Ces hommes, vulnérables, vivent isolés à même le chantier et manquent de reconnaissance sociale. Le projet propose une réflexion sur l'organisation spatiale des sites de construction afin de leur offrir un cadre de vie plus légitime. Cet objectif se concrétise par une implantation des zones de vie en périphérie, à l'interface entre le chantier et la ville. Grâce à une accessibilité et une visibilité accrues, la possibilité est offerte aux ouvriers de ne plus uniquement se définir par leur profession, mais aussi par leur citoyenneté. Une série de programmes communautaires améliorent leur condition et font émerger un réseau entre les chantiers. A terme, ce système permettra une fédération ouvrière de défense des droits. La stratégie du projet se base sur des principes constructifs économiques et rationnels en utilisant les containers disponibles dans les chantiers du pays. A l'échelle du site, le plan est un étirement linéaire et ondulé des unités de vie. Cette forme urbaine plissée est une réinterprétation contemporaine des principes de l'habitat traditionnel chinois dans lequel la relation entre public et privé est structurée par une série de ruelles et de cours. Au travers de cette proposition, ces travailleurs de l'ombre retrouvent leur dignité ainsi qu'un lieu de vie à leur mesure.
