Federico MatteiniFederico pursued his Bachelor in Material Science at Universita' di Genova (Italy) in 2009. He spent one year at the Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland), as exchange student in the frame of the EU Erasmus Lifelong Learning Programme.
In 2011 he obtained a Master degree in Chemical Engineering as a joint study agreement between
Universita' di Bologna (Italy), Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (Spain) and KTH Stokholm (Sweden), in the frame of the Erasmus Mundus Master Courses (IMMSSET).
He carried on his master thesiss project at Rice University (Houston, Texas).
After a short period as intern at DSM Material Science Center (the Netherlands), he joined the Laboratory of Semiconductor Materials of Prof. Fontcuberta i Morral at EPFL (Switzerland).
During his PhD he was awarded of a DocMobility grant to pursue his research at MIT, in the lab of Prof. W.C. Carter.
Graduated in 2016, he moved to fastree3D (3D vision startup) as product marketing manager to define target markets, associated strategy and positioning.
In 2018 he joined the large enterprises team at the Vice Presidency for Innovation as business developer.
Cyrille HibertCyrille HIBERT received his diploma in Physics in 1994 and his PhD in 1998 from University of Orleans (FR). He then held a post doctoral position in GREMI laboratory at the University of Orleans in collaboration with Alcatel Vacuum Technology and ST Microelectronics, working in deep anisotropic etching of silicon with an Inductively Coupled Plasma reactor. In May 2000 he joined the EPFL-Center of Micro-Nano-technology where he was in charge of the plasma etching activities. He left EPFL in October 2003 for a sabbatical year to join the CFF group at NMRC (Ireland) now called Tyndall Institute. He worked on developing plasma processing. In October 2004, he came back to EPFL-CMI to be in charge of etching and nanotechnology activities (FIB and future ebeam litho).
Michel DeclercqMichel J. Declercq received the Electrical Engineering degree and the PhD degree from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, in 1967 and 1971, respectively. In 1973, he was awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship, and joined Stanford University as a Research Associate in the Microelectronics Labs. From 1974 to 1978, he was Research Associate and lecturer at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. In 1978, he joined the company Tractebel in Brussels, Belgium, where he was Group Leader of the Electronic Systems team.
In 1985, Dr. Declercq joined the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, where he is currently Professor, Dean of the School of Engineering, and Director of the Electronics Laboratory. His research activities are related to mixed analog-digital I.C. design and design methodologies. He is more particularly involved in low-power/low-voltage circuits, high-frequency circuits for telecommunications, MEMS and RF-MEMS, SOI technology and circuits, high-voltage circuits and Nano-electronics. He is author and co-author of more than 220 scientific publications and 3 books, and holds several patents.
He is a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers).
Professor Declercq is expert by the European Commission for the scientific research programs in Information Technologies.
Ileana-Cristina Benea-ChelmusIleana-Cristina Benea-Chelmus is an Assistant Professor of Microengineering at the Institute of Electro and Microengineering at EPFL since January 2022. She is also a Research Associate affiliated with the group of Prof. Federico Capasso at Harvard University.
Prior to her appointment, she was a Postdoctoral scientist and SNF fellow in the group of Prof. Federico Capasso at Harvard University, USA in the John A. Harvard school of engineering and applied sciences since March 2019 to December 2021. She lead efforts on tunable metasurfaces enabled by nonlinear optics, supported through a personal grant from the Hans-Eggenberger Foundation. Apart from science, she was actively driving advocacy work within the postdoctoral association at Harvard.
She holds a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (2010) and a Master Degree with distinction in Optics and Photonics (2013) – both from KIT, Germany. During her master, she spent one year at EPFL (2011) as an ERASMUS Exchange student in Physics, where she acquired in-depth knowledge of solid-state physics, quantum mechanics and biotechnology. During her Bachelor, she received a stipend from the Anna-Ruths Foundation. In the summer of 2009, she was awarded a research stipend from DAAD “Rise in North America” to perform a summer internship at Vanderbilt University, TN, and became a scholar of SyBBURE. For her Master studies, Ileana-Cristina was awarded an excellence stipend from the Karlsruhe School of Optics and Photonics which she absolved with merits. She was selected to participate in extended carrier building programs such as "Female talents at IBM and KIT" as well as "Femtec". She did a summer internship at IMEC in Belgium and IBM Research in Zurich under the supervision of Dr. Armin Knoll. For her Master thesis she decided to join the group of Prof. Jérôme Faist and work on terahertz quantum cascade lasers and their applications in spectroscopy. She continued with her Ph.D. thesis in the same lab on quantum science. She started very early to drive a substantial proportion of the research work done in the framework of an ERC Advanced grant. She developed, as the first one in this field, the research branch of time-domain quantum optics at terahertz frequencies. She developed ultrasensitive time-domain detectors.

Andrey VoloshinA qualified researcher who showed his ability to reach outstanding results in modern photonics. Working at the interface of fundamental science and industrial applications gave him a unique chance to develop state-of-the-art photonic devices. Andrey developed a fully integrated electrically pumped soliton microcomb in 2017. Moreover, management and startup experience taught him how to achieve the maximum result with limited resources.
