André Schiper
André Schiper graduated in Physics from the ETHZ in Zurich in 1973 and received the PhD degree in Computer Science from EPFL in 1980. He has been a professor of computer science at EPFL since 1985, leading the Distributed Systems Laboratory. During the academic year 1992-1993 he was on sabbatical leave at the University of Cornell, Ithaca, New York (working with Ken Birman and Aleta Ricciardi), and in 2004-2005 at the Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau, France (working with Bernadette Charron-Bost). His research interests are in the area of dependable distributed systems, middleware support for dependable systems, replication techniques (including for database systems), group communication, distributed transactions, and MANETs (mobile ad-hoc networks).

Rachid Guerraoui
Rachid Guerraoui has been affiliated with Ecole des Mines of Paris, the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique of Saclay, Hewlett Packard Laboratories and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has worked in a variety of aspects of distributed computing, including distributed algorithms and distributed programming languages. He is most well known for his work on (e-)Transactions, epidemic information dissemination and indulgent algorithms.
He co-authored a book on Transactional Systems (Hermes) and a book on reliable distributed programming (Springer). He was appointed program chair of ECOOP 1999, ACM Middleware 2001, IEEE SRDS 2002, DISC 2004 and ACM PODC 2010.

Eva Bayer Fluckiger
Etudes a l'Université de Genève. Apres son diplôme de mathématicien obtenu en 1975, elle prépare sa thèse de doctorat sous la direction du professeur Michel Kervaire, thèse soutenue en 1978. Après plusieurs séjours postdoctoraux en Allemagne, France et les Etats-Unis, elle entre au CNRS en 1987. En 2001, elle est nommée professeure ordinaire a l'EPFL.
Eva Bayer Fluckiger a eu une bourse de la Fondation Alexander von Humboldt en 1980, elle a reçu le prix Vacheron Constantin en 1983, le prix Maria Sybilla Merian en 2001. Elle a effectué des séjours de recherche à l'Institute for Advanced Study,Princeton, au Max-Planck Institute für Mathematik, à Bonn, ainsi qu'au Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, à Berkeley. Elle a été membre du comité exécutif de la Société Mathématique Européenne, fait partie de plusieurs comités de l'Union Européenne et de la Fondation Européenne pour la Science, ainsi que membre de comités scientifiques d'instituts de recherche, de comités d'évaluation, etc. Elle a aussi été membre (et parfois présidente) de plusieurs comités scientifiques de congrès internationaux.
Eva Bayer Fluckiger est éditrice de cinq revues internationales de mathématiques. Ses domaines de recherche sont la théorie algébrique des nombres, la cohomologie galoisienne des groupes algébriques, les formes quadratiques, hermitiennes, et algèbres à involution, la théorie des noeuds, ainsi que l'application de l'algèbre et de la théorie des nombres aux codes algébriques.
Nicolas Macris
Nicolas Macris received the PhD degree in theoretical physics from EPFL and then pursued his scientific activity at the mathematics department of Rutgers University (NJ, USA). He then joined the Faculty of Basic Science of EPFL, working in the field of quantum statistical mechanics and mathematical aspects of the quantum Hall effect. Since 2005 he is with the Communication Theories Laboratory and Information Processing group of the School of Communication and Computer Science and currently works at the interface of statistical mechanics, information theory and error correcting codes, inference and learning theory. He held long-term visiting appointments and collaborations with the University College and the Institute of Advanced studies in Dublin, the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, the Centre de Physique Theorique Luminy Marseille, Paris XI Orsay, the ETH Zürich and more recently Los Alamos National Lab. Nicolas Henri Bernard Flammarion
Nicolas Flammarion is a tenure-track assistant professor in computer science at EPFL. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley, hosted by Michael I. Jordan. He received his PhD in 2017 from Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, where he was advised by Alexandre d’Aspremont and Francis Bach. In 2018 he received the prize of the Fondation Mathematique Jacques Hadamard for the best PhD thesis in the field of optimization. His research focuses primarily on learning problems at the interface of machine learning, statistics and optimization.
