The Dominican Republic (dəˈmɪnᵻkən ; República Dominicana, reˈpuβlika ðominiˈkana) is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean region. It occupies the eastern five-eighths of the island, which it shares with Haiti, making Hispaniola one of only two Caribbean islands, along with Saint Martin, that is shared by two sovereign states. The Dominican Republic is the second-largest nation in the Antilles by area (after Cuba) at , and third-largest by population, with approximately 10.7 million people (2022 est.), down from 10.8 million in 2020, of whom approximately 3.3 million live in the metropolitan area of Santo Domingo, the capital city. This paper presents the results of a one-year empirical study documenting the patterns, practices and impacts of transnational migration by people from the Dominican Republic (DR) to Switzerland during the years 1980 to 2005. Additionally, discussion of the transfer of remittances sent by Dominicans in Switzerland and their use and impacts on one migrant-sending community in the DR is given a special focus. This case study is an original contribution to the small but growing literature documenting contemporary migration of Latin Americans to Europe, and in particular, to Switzerland.

Renforcement au CFUP du pont de Bramois sur le Torrent de Verbier

Le Pont de Bramois sur le Torrent de Verbier, propriété du canton du Valais, est un ouvrage d’art réalisé sur la route permettant l’accès à Verbier, en 1969. L’ouvrage présentait un état de dégradations avancé et une insuffisance structurelle vis-à-vis des charges routières des normes actuelles. Le projet réalisé propose une modification du système statique de l’ouvrage avec transformation de celui-ci en pont intégral, un renforcement de la superstructure à l’aide de CFUP armé, faisant également office d’étanchéité, le chemisage au CFUP des bordures ainsi qu’une intervention classique de conservation du solde de l’ouvrage. Le choix du CFUP s’est imposé pour des raisons de rapidité d’exécution et, principalement, pour la capacité du matériau à permettre d’une part le renforcement structurel et, d’autre part, à assurer une étanchéité efficiente et pérenne dans le temps du tablier. L’une des difficultés majeures a consisté en la formulation d’un CFUP thixotropique apte à être mis en place sur le tablier en forte pente (jusqu’à 16 %).
