This lecture introduces phenomenological models to describe viscoelasticity, including the Maxwell, Voigt, and Zener models. It covers the time-temperature superposition principle, relaxation dynamics under sinusoidal deformation, and the generalised Voigt-Maxwell model. The lecture discusses the experimental validation of Maxwell behavior, limitations of the models, and the implications of the Williams-Landel-Ferry equation. It explores the free volume theory, the WLF equation, and the learning outcomes related to the mechanical behavior of polymers and the time-temperature equivalence in polymeric materials.
