This lecture covers the motility, secretion, and absorption functions of the digestive system, including the selective absorption pathways of lipids, the electrical activity of the gastrointestinal system, the role of the myenteric and submucosal plexus, neural control, reflex control, types of gastrointestinal movements, control of gastrointestinal peristalsis, control of gastrointestinal blood flow, chewing, swallowing, and esophageal peristalsis, as well as the mixing and propulsion of food in the stomach, the role of the pyloric sphincter in gastric emptying, different contractions in the small intestine, and the function of the ileocecal valve.
