This lecture covers the functional anatomy of bones, including mechanical support, protection of vital structures, hematopoiesis, and mineral homeostasis. It also discusses the transmission of forces, the fight against gravity, and respiratory motion. The structure of bones from macroscopic to microscopic levels is explained, along with the role of bone marrow, spongy bone, and compact bone. Additionally, the lecture delves into the functions of cartilage in joints, the role of ligaments in controlling bone motions, and the biomechanical properties of tendons. Various pathologies related to bone structure and mechanical properties are also explored.
