Nitrogen Cycle: Key Concepts

This lecture covers the nitrogen cycle, focusing on the extensive cycling of nitrogen mediated by microbes, the nitrogen mass balance in different Earth compartments, the oxidation states of key nitrogen compounds, the key processes in nitrogen cycling, the enzymes involved in nitrogen cycling, and the nitrogen fluxes. Emphasis is placed on the balance between nitrogen fixation and denitrification in terrestrial environments and the impact of anthropogenic activities on nitrogen fixation.
