This lecture covers the physiology of growth hormone (GH) regulation, including acromegaly, gigantism, and the effects of GH on bone and tissue growth. It explains the circadian rhythm of GH secretion, the mode of action of GH, and the clinical evaluation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-hepatic axis. The lecture also discusses the metabolic effects of GH and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), as well as the synthesis and secretion of GH. Additionally, it explores the primary and secondary messengers involved in GH signaling, the role of receptors like somatostatin receptor (SSTR) and growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR), and the intracellular pathways activated by GH.
