This lecture introduces the Finance and Technology Program at EPFL, a research platform at the intersection of finance and technology. The program aims to study and develop technologies for financial applications, focusing on areas like artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, and computational science. Through collaborations with industry partners, the program conducts pre-competitive research to address challenges in the financial sector. Examples of ongoing research projects include estimating default intensities with neural networks and predicting stock price volatilities using machine learning methods. The lecture also highlights the importance of industry partnerships, funding support, and the exclusive network of experts available through the program.
