Solid Waste Management Financing

This lecture focuses on the challenges African cities face in financing municipal solid waste management, exploring the different levels of funding needed, existing financing sources, and the most appropriate mechanisms for sustainable financing. It discusses the importance of funding activities such as studies, coordination, awareness campaigns, and capacity building, as well as the different types of costs involved in solid waste management. Various financing sources like taxes, subsidies, private investments, and user fees are analyzed, along with potential solutions such as surcharges on electricity consumption and differentiated user fees based on household size and poverty levels.
