A review; an overview of recent developments from the Lab. of Organometallic and Medicinal Chem. at the EPFL in biphasic catalysis, involving aq. solns. and ionic liqs., and in CO2 redn. is presented. Progress in the use of ionic liqs., either by catalyst modification or by the design of task-specific ionic liqs. is described. The application of high pressure methods to provide fundamental data and mechanistic insights into reactions and processes in these solvents is also described.
