Linxia Hui Autonomous PrefectureLinxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture (, Xiao'erjing: ), formerly known as Hezhou (河州) and Baohan (枹罕), is located in Gansu Province, south of the provincial capital Lanzhou, bordering Qinghai to the west. It is an autonomous prefecture for the Muslim Hui people, a large Chinese ethnic group. It also includes two autonomous counties for other Muslim groups, namely Bonan, Dongxiang and Salar. Linxia Prefecture is located in southwestern central Gansu.
Auguste LongnonAuguste Honoré Longnon (18 October 1844, in Paris – 12 July 1911, in Paris) was a French historian and archivist. He is remembered for his research in the field of historical geography and for his edition of the 15th century poet, Francois Villon. Up to the age of 20 he worked as a shoemaker for his father. Islam in ChinaIslam has been practiced in China since the 7th century CE. Muslims are a minority group in China, representing 1 to 1.5 percent of the total population (20 million people) according to various estimates. Though Hui Muslims are the most numerous group, the greatest concentration of Muslims are in Xinjiang, which contains a significant Uyghur population. Lesser yet significant populations reside in the regions of Ningxia, Gansu and Qinghai. Of China's 55 officially recognized minority peoples, ten of these groups are predominantly Sunni Muslim.
Ajall Shams al-Din OmarSayyid Ajall Shams al-Din Omar al-Bukhari (سید اجل شمسالدین عمر بخاری; ; 1211–1279) was Yunnan's first provincial governor, appointed by the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty of China. Shams al-Din was of Central Asian Iranic origin, being a Muslim Khwarezmian from Bukhara (in present-day Uzbekistan). When Genghis Khan attacked the city during the war between the Khwarizmi Shah and the Mongols, Sayyid Ajall Shams al-Din Omar's family surrendered to him.
Charles Jean de la Vallée PoussinCharles-Jean Étienne Gustave Nicolas, baron de la Vallée Poussin (ʃaʁl ʒɑ̃ etjɛn ɡystav nikɔla baʁɔ̃ də la vale pusɛ̃; 14 August 1866 – 2 March 1962) was a Belgian mathematician. He is best known for proving the prime number theorem. The King of Belgium ennobled him with the title of baron. De la Vallée Poussin was born in Leuven, Belgium. He studied mathematics at the Catholic University of Leuven under his uncle Louis-Philippe Gilbert, after he had earned his bachelor's degree in engineering.
Jean BaubérotJean Baubérot (born 26 July 1941 in Châteauponsac, Haute-Vienne), is a French historian and sociologist specializing in sociology of religions. He is the founder of the sociology of secularism. After holding the chair of "History and Sociology of Protestantism" (1978–1990), he held the chair of "History and Sociology of secularism "(since 1991) at the École pratique des hautes études, where he was the honorary president. He wrote twenty books, including a historical novel.
Raymond de Geouffre de La PradelleRaymond de Geouffre de La Pradelle de Leyrat (November 22, 1910 – July 19, 2002) was a French lawyer. His name comes from a village located in the commune of Rignac in Aveyron. Born to Albert Geouffre de La Pradelle and Thérèse Paul-Toinet, he married Hélène Boudet de Castelli (b. 1915) on October 11, 1934. Together, Hélène and Raymond had three children: Géraud, Arnaud, and Marie-Ange. After getting divorced from Castelli, he married Éliane Puech on June 12, 1972. He studied at the Lycée Buffon and at the École Tannenberg in Paris.
Louis DemaisonLouis Demaison (5 November 1852 – 5 May 1937) was a 19th–20th-century French historiographer, archaeologist, and with Henri Jadart, one of the most significant contributors to the nineteenth/twentieth history of the Marne department. Louis Demaison was the grandson of fr (1796–1856), a trader who was mayor of Reims in 1837 and 1838 and Sophie Henriot whom he married in 1821. He began his studies in law and after obtaining his license he followed the courses of Gabriel Monod, Gaston Paris and Darmester at the École pratique des hautes études.
ColoaneColoane (Cantonese: Lou Wan) is a former island in Macau that is united with the island of Taipa by an area of reclaimed land known as Cotai. It is located at the southern part of Macau. Administratively, the boundaries of the traditional civil parish (freguesia) of São Francisco Xavier are coterminous with that of Coloane. Coloane was known in Cantonese as Gau Ou Saan (九澳山 lit. "Nine-inlet Mountain" or transcribed in Portuguese as Ká-Hó) and Yim Jou Waan (鹽灶灣, lit. "Salt-stove Bay").
