First observation of Bs0 -> J/psi f0(980) decays

Using data collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, the hadronic decay B-s(0) -> J/psi f(0)(980) is observed. This CP eigenstate mode could be used to measure mixing-induced CP violation in the B? system. Using a fit to the pi(+)pi(-) mass spectrum with interfering resonances gives R-f0/phi equivalent to inverted right perpendicular(B-s(0) -> J/psi f(0) -> pi(+)pi(-)/inverted right perpendicular(B-s(0) -> J/psi phi,phi -> K+K-) = 0.252(-0.032-0.033)(+0.046+0.027). In the interval +/- 90 MeV around 980 MeV, corresponding to approximately two full Jo widths we also find R' equivalent to inverted right perpendicular(B-s(0) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-),vertical bar m(pi(+)pi(-))-980 MeV vertical bar J/psi phi,phi -> K+K- = 0.162 +/- 0.022 +/- 0.016, where in both cases the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The first observation of the decay B-s(0) -> K*(0)(K) over bar*(0) is reported using 35 pb(-1) of data collected by LHCb in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. A total of 49.8 +/- 7.5 B-s(0) -> (K+pi(-))(K-pi(+)) events are observed within +/- 50 MeV/c(2) of the B-s(0) mass and 746 MeV/c(2) < m(K pi) < 1046 MeV/c(2), mostly coming from a resonant B-s(0) -> K*(0)(K) over bar*(0) signal. The branching fraction and the CP-averaged K*(0) longitudinal polarization fraction are measured to B(B-s(0) -> K*(0)(K) over bar*(0)) = (2.81 +/- 0.46(stat.) +/- 0.45(syst.) +/- 0.34(f(s)/f(d))) x 10(-5) and f(L) = 0.31 +/- 0.12(stat.) +/- 0.04(syst.). Using data collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, the semileptonic decays (B) over bar (0)(s) -> D+X mu(-)(nu) over bar and (B) over bar (0)(s) -> (DK+X)-K-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar are detected. Two structures are observed in the (DK+)-K-0 mass spectrum at masses consistent with the known D-s1(2536)(+) and D-s2*(2573)(+) mesons. The measured branching fractions relative to the total (B) over bar (0)(s) semileptonic rate are B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> (Ds2X)-X-mu(-)(nu) over bar /B(B-2(-0) -> X mu(-)(nu) over bar) = (3.3 +/- 1.0 +/- 0.4)%, and B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> (Ds2X)-X-mu(-)(nu) over bar /B(B-2(-0) -> X mu(-)(nu) over bar) = (5.4 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.5)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. First observations of the B-S(0) ->psi(2S)eta, B-(s)(0) ->psi(2S)pi(+)pi(-) decays are made using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in proton proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV. The ratios of the branching fractions of each of the (2S) modes with respect to the corresponding J/psi decays are B(B-s(0) ->psi(2S)eta)/B(B-s(0) -> J(2S)eta) = 0.83 +/- 0.14 (stat) +/- 0.12 (B), B(B0 ->psi(2S)pi(+)pi(-))/B(B0 -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-)) = 0.56 +/- 0.07 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst) +/- 0.01 (B), B(B0 ->psi(2S)pi(+)pi(-))/B(B-s(0) -> J/psi pi(+)pi(-)) = 0.34 +/- 0.04 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst) +/- 0.01 (B). where the third uncertainty corresponds to the uncertainties of the dilepton branching fractions of the J/ and psi(28) meson decays.
