A Parisian of old Norman stock, Frédéric Lachèvre was a bibliophile who was brought by his passion for books to be interested in forgotten and neglected people of the reign of Louis XIII during the 17th century, people of whom he became the historian. After he began working at the Crédit lyonnais, he was appointed director of the "Compagnie nouvelle du chemin de fer d'Arles à Saint-Louis-du-Rhône" but withdrew from business aged 45 in order to entirely indulge in his passion for literature.
Blaise de VigenèreBlaise de Vigenère (5 April 1523 – 19 February 1596) (viʒnɛːʁ) was a French diplomat, cryptographer, translator and alchemist. Vigenère was born into a respectable family in the village of Saint-Pourçain in Bourbonnais. When he was 12, his father, Jehan (modern spelling Jean) de Vigenère, arranged for him to have a classical education in Paris. Registered at the university at 14, he quit after three years without a known degree. From 1539 to around 1545, he worked under Gilbert Bayard, a first secretary to King Francis I, who had fiefs in Bourbonnais.

Lalan (artist)Lalan, born Xie Jing-lan (Chinese: 謝景蘭; 1921–1995), was a Chinese-French multidisciplinary artist. Lalan was among the early practitioners of integrated arts, incorporating painting, music, dance, and poetry into her performances. Lalan was born in Guizhou, China. She received professional vocal training at the Shanghai Music Academy, and then studied composition and modern dance after relocating to Paris in 1948 with her then husband, painter Zao Wou-ki. Lalan did not start painting until the age of 37.
MichifMichif (also Mitchif, Mechif, Michif-Cree, Métif, Métchif, French Cree) is one of the languages of the Métis people of Canada and the United States, who are the descendants of First Nations (mainly Cree, Nakota, and Ojibwe) and fur trade workers of white ancestry (mainly French). Michif emerged in the early 19th century as a mixed language and adopted a consistent character between about 1820 and 1840. The word Michif is from a variant pronunciation of the French word Métis.
