Providing safety of stimulation is a critical requirement in the design of biomedical electrical stimulators. Charge balancing circuits are required to guarantee safety of electrical stimulators. Chopped-anodic-phase (CAP) is one of the methods used for charge balancing in which short anodic pulses are applied during the anodic phase. Using short anodic pulses enables the charge balancer to measure the remaining voltage on the tissue after each short pulse. This paper presents the implementation of the different CAP methods using a 0.18 mu m technology. The experimental results validate the correct performance of the implemented charge balancers.
