A photog. material with improved physicomech. properties and photog. characteristics contains a combination of gelatin and a water-sol. polymer in the form of a symplex. Thus, a cellulose acetate support was coated with a coupler-contg. Ag(Br,Cl,I) (15 mol% AgCl) emulsion layer contg. gelatin and a polyelectrolyte complex composed of cellulose sulfate and an acrylamide-acrylic acid copolymer cationic ester to give a material which showed a swelling value of 290% and a m.p. of 74 Deg vs. 720% and 31 Deg, resp., for a control contg. only gelatin.
