The Laboratory of Rock and Geofluid Physics at EPFL focuses on understanding the relationships between rock-fluid interactions and rock physics. By investigating chemical redistribution in the Earth's crust, the lab explores how alterations in rock structure impact the hydraulic and mechanical properties of geosystems. Through experimental techniques such as rock deformation and rock-fluid interaction experiments under in situ conditions, the unit aims to unravel the structure and behavior of geomaterials. Ongoing projects include studying the redistribution of silica under volcanic conditions to comprehend the evolution of rock permeability. The unit also offers a course on Geophysics for Engineers, providing insights into geophysical exploration methods for subsurface investigation.
