The McCabe Laboratory at EPFL, led by Prof. McCabe, focuses on motor neuroscience, investigating the biology, activity, and disorders of the motor system. Their research aims to understand the neuronal circuit networks and synapses of the motor system, particularly in relation to neurodegenerative diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). By studying synapses and circuits in Drosophila models, the lab explores how these structures develop, adapt, and coordinate to produce motor activity. Utilizing genetic tools in fruit flies, the lab extends its findings to rodents and humans, enhancing the fidelity of disease models and providing insights into human physiology and neurodegeneration.
