Thierry MeyerOriginaire de Genève, né en 1961, Thierry Meyer reçoit en 1986 son diplôme (MSC) dingénieur chimiste de lEcole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Il reçoit en 1989 son doctorat (PhD) à EPFL pour sa thèse sur le micromélange dans des milieux fortement visqueux. Il rejoint l'institut du génie chimique de 1989 jusqu'à 1993 en tant que scientifique senior dans le domaine des réactions de polymérisation. Il entre, en 1994, à la division " Pigments " de Ciba-Geigy SA, où il travaille au développement et à la mise en production de plusieurs pigments de hautes performances. Il assume la fonction de chef de projets pour l'introduction de nouveaux pigments en fabrication. En 1997, il est nommé chef de fabrication pour la production de la division pigments de Ciba Spécialités Chimiques SA à Monthey. Il est pendant cette même période nommé chargé de cours à l'EPFL. Retournant à l'institut du génie chimique d'EPFL à Lausanne vers la fin de 1998, il a été nommé « d'enseignement de maître et de recherche » (MER) pour mener un nouveau groupe de recherche dans le domaine des polymères et les fluides supercritiques, et enseigner aux chimistes, ingénieurs chimistes et en sciences des matériaux, les disciplines telles que le développement de procédés, l'introduction au génie chimique, le chimie organique et des polymères au programme de bachelor et master. En 2005 il assume la responsabilité du service de Sécurité et Santé au Travail de la faculté des sciences de base en plus de ses activités de recherches traitant de la gestion des risques (risk management) et des fluides supercritiques. Il enseigne actuellement l'introduction au génie chimique au niveau bachelor, le risk management au niveau master et des cours de formation continue dans le domaine de la sécurité (safety) et de la gestion des risques (engineering risk management). Il agit également comme consultant et expert en matière de risk management et génie chimique auprès du tribunal de l'ICC (chambre de commerce internationale) du World Business Organization, auprès de plusieurs bureaux d'études et de consultants ainsi quauprès dindustries. Thierry Meyer est actuellement membre de plusieurs associations internationales de la fédération Européenne du génie chimique et de la société chimique Américaine et American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Il a été élu Président de la European Working Party on Polymer Reaction Engineering de 2001 jusqu'à 2006. Il est actuellement le représentant académique Suisse dans la European Working Party on Loss Prevention and Safety Promotion et dans la European Working Party on Education. Il est membre de plusieurs editorial boards: Chemical Engineering Research and Design, Macromolecular Reaction Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Journal of Chemical Health and Safety.

Je suis membre de différentes associations professionnelles parmi lesquelles figuent le Conseil Mondial de l'énergie (CME) et l'Association internationale pour l'économie de l'énergie (AIEE). Comme membre du groupe d'étude du CME sur les vulnérabilités, j'ai développé les métriques utilisées pour évaluer la vulnérabilité énergétique des pays industrialisés.

Depuis 2009: membre du Comité de la "European Biofuels Technology Platform" Michel BierlaireBorn in 1967, Michel Bierlaire holds a PhD in Mathematical Sciences from the Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix, Namur, Belgium (University of Namur). Between 1995 and 1998, he was research associate and project manager at the Intelligent Transportation Systems Program of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Ma, USA). Between 1998 and 2006, he was a junior faculty in the Operations Research group ROSO within the Institute of Mathematics at EPFL. In 2006, he was appointed associate professor in the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering at EPFL, where he became the director of the Transport and Mobility laboratory. Since 2009, he is the director of TraCE, the Transportation Center. From 2009 to 2017, he was the director of Doctoral Program in Civil and Environmental Engineering at EPFL. In 2012, he was appointed full professor at EPFL. Since September 2017, he is the head of the Civil Engineering Institute at EPFL. His main expertise is in the design, development and applications of models and algorithms for the design, analysis and management of transportation systems. Namely, he has been active in demand modeling (discrete choice models, estimation of origin-destination matrices), operations research (scheduling, assignment, etc.) and Dynamic Traffic Management Systems. As of August 2021, he has published 136 papers in international journals, 4 books, 41 book chapters, 193 articles in conference proceedings, 182 technical reports, and has given 195 scientific seminars. His Google Scholar h-index is 68. He is the founder, organizer and lecturer of the EPFL Advanced Continuing Education Course "Discrete Choice Analysis: Predicting Demand and Market Shares". He is the founder of hEART: the European Association for Research in Transportation. He was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the EURO Journal on Transportation and Logistics, from 2011 to 2019. He is an Associate Editor of Operations Research. He is the editor of two special issues for the journal Transportation Research Part C. He has been member of the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) of Transportation Research Part B since 1995, of Transportation Research Part C since January 1, 2006.
Jean-Claude BünzliJean-Claude Bünzli was born in 1944. He earned a degree in chemical engineering in 1968 and a PhD in 1971 (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne) for his work on the kinetic behaviour of Nb and Ta pentachloride adducts. He spent two years at the University of British Columbia as a teaching postdoctoral fellow (photoelectron spectroscopy) and one year at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (physical organic chemistry).
Positions
He was appointed assistant-professor at the University of Lausanne in 1974 and started a research program on the spectrochemical properties of f-elements. He was promoted as a full professor of inorganic and analytical chemistry in 1980. He transferred to EPFL in 2001 where he directed the Laboratory of Lanthanide Supramolecular Chemistry until 2010.
From 2009 to 2013, he was World Class University Professor at Korea University (South Korea) helping developing a new research center for photovoltaics. In 20154-2015 he acted as visiting professor at FJIRSM (Fuzhou, Fujian), a laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He presently holds the Dr Kennedy Wong Distinguished Visiting Professorship at Hong Kong Baptist University (3 months/year) and a position as Distinguished Scholar at University of Technology, Sydney (NSW, Australia, 1 month/year).
Administrative and reviewer duties
He acted as the elected Dean of the Faculty of Sciences (1990-1991) and as one of the elected Vice-Rectors of the University (1991-1995), in charge of students' affairs and of research programs in the field of biomedical sciences. He held a position of invited professor at the Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg in 1996 and at the Science University of Tokyo in 1998. In 1989, he founded the European Rare Earths and Actinide Society which coordinate international conferences in the field (cf. http://ereswww.epfl.ch).
He served as a World Bank Project Specialist within the framework of the Chinese Provincial Universities Development Project (Northwest China, 1989) and as a member of a Panel in charge of evaluating chemical research at Norwegian universities (1997). In 2001, he was hired as "Peer leader" for the evaluation of the Swiss universities of applied sciences. In 2005, he acted as a member of the "Physical Inorganic Panel" of the Science Foundation of Ireland and in 2006 he was nominated to the "Chemistry Panel" of the same foundation.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of Spectroscopy Letters, associate editor-in-chief of the Journal of Rare Earths, and senior editor of the Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths (54 volumes published to date).
Teaching
Regarding teaching, he has directed the joint project of the universities of Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel and Fribourg "General chemistry for students enrolled in a life sciences curriculum", within the frame of the "Swiss virtual campus", a program sponsored by the Conference of Swiss universities and the Swiss federal office for science and education (2000-2004). His research is centered on lanthanide luminescent molecular and supramolecular edifices, with main applications in biology & medicine. He has collected >22800 citations (h-index 72). Dario FloreanoProf. Dario Floreano is director of the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). Since 2010, he is the founding director of the Swiss National Center of Competence in Robotics, a research program that brings together more than 20 labs across Switzerland. Prof. Floreano holds an M.A. in Vision, an M.S. in Neural Computation, and a PhD in Robotics. He has held research positions at Sony Computer Science Laboratory, at Caltech/JPL, and at Harvard University. His main research interests are Robotics and A.I. at the convergence of biology and engineering. Prof. Floreano made pioneering contributions to the fields of evolutionary robotics, aerial robotics, and soft robotics. He served in numerous advisory boards and committees, including the Future and Emerging Technologies division of the European Commission, the World Economic Forum Agenda Council, the International Society of Artificial Life, the International Neural Network Society, and in the editorial committee of several scientific journals.
