François AvellanLe professeur François Avellan, directeur du Laboratoire de machines hydrauliques de l'EPFL, est Ingénieur hydraulicien diplômé en 1977 de l'Ecole nationale supérieure d'hydraulique, Institut national polytechnique de Grenoble, France. En 1980, il obtient, son titre de docteur ingénieur de l'Université d'Aix-Marseille II, France. Engagé à l'EPFL en 1980 en tant qu'adjoint scientifique, il est depuis 1994 directeur du Laboratoire de machines hydrauliques de l'EPFL et il a été nommé en 2003 professeur ordinaire en machines hydrauliques.
Directeur de 37 thèses de doctorat de l'EPFL, il a été distingué par la Société hydrotechnique de France qui lui a décerné son "Grand Prix 2010 de l'hydrotechnique". Son activité de recherche est centrée sur l'hydrodynamique des turbomachines, pompes et pompes-turbines incluant en particulier les domaines de la cavitation, l'hydroacoustique, les interactions fluide-structure, la conception et l'évaluation des performances des machines hydrauliques et systèmes associés.
De 2002 à 2012, le Professeur Avellan a présidé la section machines hydrauliques et systèmes de l'Association internationale de recherche hydraulique, AIRH. Le Professeur François Avellan a dirigé avec succès plusieurs projets de recherche aussi bien suisses qu'internationaux en partenariat avec les principaux acteurs industriels et exploitants du secteur hydro-électrique, parmi ces projet-on peut citer notamment:

Enfin, il est impliqué dans l'expertise scientifique et les essais contractuels indépendants des performances des turbines et pompes-turbines des centrales hydro-électriques les plus importantes du monde. En reconnaissance de son activité de responsable du groupe de travail du comité TC4 en charge de la nouvelle édition de la norme CEI 60193, la Commission internationale électrotechnique, CEI, l'a distingué par le "IEC 1906 Award". Philippe FlückigerSince 1999 Philippe Flückiger is the Director of Operations at the EPFL Center of MicroNanoTechnology, a world-class state-of-the-art cleanroom dedicated to research and development in the field of MEMS. He received his diploma in physics from the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland in 1987 and his PhD from the same University in 1993. His thesis work was dedicated to the deposition, patterning and characterization of high temperature superconductor epitaxial thin films. From 1993 to 1994 he was a post doc at Stanford University to develop submicron lithography with the atomic force microscope in the group of Calvin Quate, inventor of the AFM. From 1995 to 1997 he was successively process engineer, project manager and process engineering manager at Micronas SA in Bevaix, Switzerland, a microelectronics company producing baseband processors and voltage regulators for wireless applications, mostly ASICs for Nokia Mobile Phones. In 1997 he spent 4 months in the production line of EM Microelectronic Marin SA, Switzerland, a semiconductor manufacturer specialized in the design and production of ultra low power, low voltage integrated circuits for battery-operated and field-powered applications. He joined then the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) to start the new activity in diffusion, oxidation and CVD at the Center of MicroNanoTechnology. He was appointed Director of Operations of the Center in 1999.
Cyrille HibertCyrille HIBERT received his diploma in Physics in 1994 and his PhD in 1998 from University of Orleans (FR). He then held a post doctoral position in GREMI laboratory at the University of Orleans in collaboration with Alcatel Vacuum Technology and ST Microelectronics, working in deep anisotropic etching of silicon with an Inductively Coupled Plasma reactor. In May 2000 he joined the EPFL-Center of Micro-Nano-technology where he was in charge of the plasma etching activities. He left EPFL in October 2003 for a sabbatical year to join the CFF group at NMRC (Ireland) now called Tyndall Institute. He worked on developing plasma processing. In October 2004, he came back to EPFL-CMI to be in charge of etching and nanotechnology activities (FIB and future ebeam litho).
Philippe RenaudPhilippe Renaud is Professor at the Microsystem Laboratory (LMIS4) at EPFL. He is also the scientific director of the EPFL Center of MicroNanoTechnology (CMI). His main research area is related to micronano technologies in biomedical applications (BioMEMS) with emphasis on cell-chips, nanofluidics and bioelectronics. Ph. Renaud is invloved in many scientifics papers in his research area. He received his diploma in physics from the University of Neuchâtel (1983) and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Lausanne (1988). He was postdoctoral fellow at University of California, Berkeley (1988-89) and then at the IBM Zürich Research Laboratory in Switzerland (1990-91). In 1992, he joined the Sensors and Actuators group of the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) at Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He was appointed assistant professor at EPFL in 1994 and full professor in 1997. In summer 1996, he was visiting professor at the Tohoku University, Japan. Ph. Renaud is active in several scientific committee (scientific journals, international conferences, scientific advisory boards of companies, PhD thesis committee). He is also co-founder of the Nanotech-Montreux conference. Ph. Renaud is committed to valorization of basic research through his involvement in several high-tech start-up companies.
Matteo Dal PeraroMatteo Dal Peraro graduated in Physics at the University of Padua in 2000. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biophysics at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA, Trieste) in 2004. He then received postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) under the guidance of Prof. M. L. Klein. He was nominated Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the EPFL School of Life Sciences in late 2007.
His research at the Laboratory for Biomolecular Modeling (LBM), within the Interfaculty Institute of Bioengineering (IBI), focuses on the multiscale modeling of large macromolecular systems.
