Tobias KippenbergTobias J. Kippenberg is Full Professor of Physics at EPFL and leads the Laboratory of Photonics and Quantum Measurement. He obtained his BA at the RWTH Aachen, and MA and PhD at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech in Pasadena, USA). From 2005- 2009 he lead an Independent Research Group at the MPI of Quantum Optics, and is at EPFL since. His research interest are the Science and Applications of ultra high Q microcavities; in particular with his research group he discovered chip-scale Kerr frequency comb generation (Nature 2007, Science 2011) and observed radiation pressure backaction effects in microresonators that now developed into the field of cavity optomechanics (Science 2008). Tobias Kippenberg is alumni of the “Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes”. For his invention of “chip-scale frequency combs” he received he Helmholtz Price for Metrology (2009) and the EFTF Young Investigator Award (2010). For his research on cavity optomechanics, he received the EPS Fresnel Prize (2009). In addition he is recipient of the ICO Prize in Optics (2014), the Swiss National Latsis award (2015), the German Wilhelm Klung Award (2015) and ZEISS Research Award (2018). He is fellow of the APS and OSA, and listed since 2014 in the Thomas Reuters highlycited.com in the domain of Physics. Christos ComninellisChristos Comninellis, of Greek origin, born in 1945, received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry (distinction with honor) in 1970 from the University of Alexandria.
From 1971 to 1975, he worked as a chemist at the Institute of chemical engineering at the EPFL, where he achieved his PhD in technical sciences in 1979 for his research on the electrochemical fluorination of organic compounds in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride.
Appointed professor in 1996, he teaches at the Faculty of Basic Sciences (FSB) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL)

His research work is focused on environmental electrochemistry, electrocatalysis, fuel cell and electrochemical promotion in catalysis. An applied research for the utilization of electrochemical techniques in industry for the protection of the environment is a constant concern within his activities. As a result, the collaboration with the industry enabled the development of oxidation processes with regeneration of the oxidant using a new type of bipolar electrochemical reactor.
Christos Comninellis has published over 170 scientific papers, directed 17 doctoral theses and holds 14 patents. He has participated in over 130 international symposia, giving five plenary lectures during the last five years. He has been president of the Evaluation Committee of the FSB since the beginning of 2004 and is member of the jury of the EPFL prize for outstanding PhD-thesis.
Murat KuntNé le 16 janvier 1945 à Ankara, a fait sa scolarité au lycée de Galatasaray, l'une des plus vieilles institutions créée en 1481 suivant un accord entre la France et l'Empire Ottomane. Il a reçu son diplôme d'ingénieur-physicien de l'Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) en 1969 et son diplôme de docteur ès sciences en 1974 de la même institution avec une thèse sur la compression de facsimilé.
De 1974 à 1977 il a travaillé au Massachusetts Institute of Technology à Boston comme Research Fellow au Research Laboratory of Electronics.
De retour en Suisse en 1977, il a repris un poste d'Adjoint scientifique au Laboratoire de traitement des signaux à l'Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Il a travaillé sur la compression des images et de la vidéo, les signaux biomédicaux et la vision par ordinateur.
En 1978 il a créé la revue scientifique Signal Processing dont il est le rédacteur en chef et l'Association européenne de traitement des signaux (EURASIP).
Il a été nommé professeur en 1980
Dès 1986, il reçoit des mandats importants (8 Mio Fr.suisses chacun) de groupes industriels comme Thomson CSF et Hewlett-Packard.
En 1987 il a été nommé rapporteur à l'Assemblée National française (MM. Raymod Forni et Michel Pelcha, députés) pour la télévion à haute définition.
En 1989 il a été nommé directeur du Laboratoire de traitement des signaux.

Denis GilletDenis Gillet received the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in Information Systems also from the EPFL in 1995. During 1992 he was appointed as Research Fellow at the Information Systems Laboratory of Stanford University in the United States. He is currently Maître d'enseignement et de recherche at the EPFL School of Engineering, where he leads the React research group. His current research interests include Technologies Enhanced Learning (TEL), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Devices Interaction (HDI) and Optimal Coordination of Complex and Distributed Systems. Denis Gillet is affiliated at EPFL with the Center for Intelligent Systems and the Center for Digital Education.
