Pedee people
The Pee Dee people, also Pedee and Peedee, are American Indians of the Southeast United States. Historically, their population has been concentrated in the Piedmont of present-day South Carolina. In the 17th and 18th centuries, English colonists named the Pee Dee River and the Pee Dee region of South Carolina for the tribe. Several organizations, including state-recognized tribes, one state-recognized group and unrecognized groups, claim descent from the Pedee. The meaning of the name Pedee is unknown.
Cheraw
The Cheraw people, also known as the Saraw or Saura, were a Siouan-speaking tribe of Indigenous people of the Southeastern Woodlands, in the Piedmont area of North Carolina near the Sauratown Mountains, east of Pilot Mountain and north of the Yadkin River. They lived in villages near the Catawba River. Their first European and African contact was with the Hernando De Soto Expedition in 1540. The early explorer John Lawson included them in the larger eastern-Siouan confederacy, which he called "the Esaw Nation.
Catobas
Les Catawba (en français, les Catobas, également appelés Issa ou Esaw) sont une tribu amérindienne qui vivait à l'origine dans le sud-est des États-Unis, le long de la frontière entre la Caroline du Nord et la Caroline du Sud. Malgré leur petit nombre, ils servirent en tant que Patriots durant la guerre d'indépendance des États-Unis, combattant aux côtés d'autres révolutionnaires américains contre les Britanniques au cours de batailles telles que la bataille de Guilford Court House.
Croatan
The Croatan were a small Native American ethnic group living in the coastal areas of what is now North Carolina. They might have been a branch of the larger Roanoke people or allied with them. The Croatan lived in current Dare County, an area encompassing the Alligator River, Croatan Sound, Roanoke Island, Ocracoke Island, and parts of the Outer Banks, including Hatteras Island. The Croatan people who exist today live in Cumberland, Sampson, and Harnett counties predominantly.
Cherokees
Les Cherokees (en cherokee : ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯ), sont un peuple autochtone d’Amérique du Nord qui habitait dans l’Est et le Sud-Est des États-Unis avant d’être forcé à se déplacer vers le plateau d’Ozark. Les ethnologues estiment qu’il existe aujourd’hui entre cinq et sept millions de personnes descendant des Cherokees. Actuellement, les principales communautés sont la Nation Cherokee et l’ en Oklahoma et l’ en Caroline du Nord. La nation est également représentée en Géorgie, en Alabama, en Arkansas, dans le Missouri et dans le Tennessee.
