Wakefield

Wakefield est une ville du comté du West Yorkshire en Angleterre. Elle se trouve au sud de Leeds. Sa population s'élevait à habitants en 2001. Wakefield est la principale ville et le centre administrative d’un district métropolitain baptisé City of Wakefield. La ville était un centre de commerce important pour le tissu. Sa cathédrale fut restaurée par George Gilbert Scott. On dit souvent que son nom dérive de « champ de Wacca » (le champ appartenant à Wacca).

Borough de comté

Un county borough, traduit en français par borough de comté, est un terme introduit en 1889 au Royaume-Uni de Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande (à l'exception de l'Écosse), pour désigner un borough ou une cité indépendante de l'administration d'un conseil de comté (county council). Les county boroughs ont été abolis par le Local Government Act 1972 en Angleterre et au pays de Galles, mais restent utilisés comme circonscription de lord-lieutenant et de sheriff en Irlande du Nord.

Statut de borough au Royaume-Uni

Au Royaume-Uni, le statut de borough est une distinction accordée par le monarque à travers une charte royale érigeant des entités de gouvernement local en corporations. Cet honneur est exclusivement attribué en Angleterre et en Irlande-du-Nord. Ce dispositif juridique simplement honorifique ne donne aucun droit et privilège supplémentaire ni aux conseils ni aux habitants de la zone de gouvernement local ayant reçu ce type de statut.

Local education authorities in England

Local education authorities (LEAs) were defined in England as the local councils responsible for education within their jurisdictions. The term was introduced by the Education Act 1902 which transferred education powers from school boards to existing local councils. There have been periodic changes to the types of councils defined as local education authorities. Initially, they were the councils of counties and county boroughs. From 1974 the local education authorities were the county councils in non-metropolitan areas and the district councils in metropolitan areas.

Slaithwaite

Slaithwaite (ˈslæθ.weɪt, locally 'Slaithwaite' ˈslaʊ.ᵻt; Old Norse for "timber-fell thwaite/clearing") is a village and former civil parish, now in the unparished area of Colne Valley, in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies in the Colne Valley, lying across the River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, approximately south-west of Huddersfield.

Honley

NOTOC Honley is a large village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Holme Valley, in the Kirklees district, in West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated near to Holmfirth and Huddersfield, and on the banks of the River Holme in the Holme Valley. According to the 2011 Census it had a population of 6,474, a growth of 577 from the 2001 Census The annual Honley Agricultural Show takes place on the second Saturday of June.
