A performance is an act of staging or presenting a play, concert, or other form of entertainment. It is also defined as the action or process of carrying out or accomplishing an action, task, or function. Management science In the work place, job performance is the hypothesized conception or requirements of a role. There are two types of job performances: contextual and task. Task performance is dependent on cognitive ability, while contextual performance is dependent on personality. Task performance relates to behavioral roles that are recognized in job descriptions and remuneration systems. Integrating Language Identification to improve Multilingual Speech Recognition

The process of determining the language of a speech utterance is called Language Identification (LID). This task can be very challenging as it has to take into account various language-specific aspects, such as phonetic, phonotactic, vocabulary and grammar-related cues. In multilingual speech recognition we try to find the most likely word sequence that corresponds to an utterance where the language is not known a priori. This is a considerably harder task compared to monolingual speech recognition and it is common to use LID to estimate the current language. In this project we present two general approaches for LID and describe how to integrate them into multilingual speech recognizers. The first approach uses hierarchical multilayer perceptrons to estimate language posterior probabilities given the acoustics in combination with hidden Markov models. The second approach evaluates the output of a multilingual speech recognizer to determine the spoken language. The research is applied to the MediaParl speech corpus that was recorded at the Parliament of the canton of Valais, where people switch from Swiss French to Swiss German or vice versa. Our experiments show that, on that particular data set, LID can be used to significantly improve the performance of multilingual speech recognizers. We will also point out that ASR dependent LID approaches yield the best performance due to higher-level cues and that our systems perform much worse on non-native data

Montreux Co-Operative Culturelle. Une architecture de l'intelligence collective

L'architecte est pris au piège dans son système de pensées d'expert. Dès lors, le travail vise à introduire des outils conviviaux au workflow architectural pour faciliter l'intervention et la discussion des utilisateurs profanes, promulguant une architecture plus inclusive et durable. Le projet s'appuie sur les idéaux de l'association, « la 17ème », résidant à Montreux. Son idéologie, articulée autour de notions de participativité, d'inventivité et d'exploration, favorise un environnement propice à la vérification du processus « par et pour l'utilisateur ». L'expérience s'appuie sur le logiciel « Minecraft », base de nos interactions projectuelles. Ces dernières, collectées, nous permettent de comprendre les différentes itérations et l'improvisation architecturale qui mènent à la solution concertée. Situé dans un bâtiment désaffecté derrière le Montreux Palace, en aplomb sur le lac, le programme tente de répondre au besoin d'un « Incubateur culturel ». Ce choix questionne le rapport de la culture amatrice, qui nécessite des espaces d'expressions et de performances, avec celui d'une dynamique de logement coopératif. Ainsi, l'emphase sur l'intelligence collective rend intelligible, d'une part le fonctionnement du processus de création collective et d'autre part, solidifie les préceptes coopératifs.

Ant colony optimization for the single model U-type assembly line balancing problem

An assembly line is a production line in which units move continuously through a sequence of stations. The assembly line balancing problem is defined as the allocation of tasks to an ordered sequence of stations subject to precedence constraints with the objective of optimizing a performance measure. In this paper, we propose ant colony algorithms to solve the single-model U-type assembly line balancing problem. We conduct an extensive experimental study in which the performance of the proposed algorithm is compared against best known algorithms reported in the literature. The results indicate that the proposed algorithms display very competitive performance against them. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
