Estrogen (medication)
An estrogen (E) is a type of medication which is used most commonly in hormonal birth control and menopausal hormone therapy, and as part of feminizing hormone therapy for transgender women. They can also be used in the treatment of hormone-sensitive cancers like breast cancer and prostate cancer and for various other indications. Estrogens are used alone or in combination with progestogens. They are available in a wide variety of formulations and for use by many different routes of administration.
Dienogest
Dienogest, sold under the brand name Visanne among others, is a progestin medication which is used in birth control pills and in the treatment of endometriosis. It is also used in menopausal hormone therapy and to treat heavy periods. Dienogest is available both alone and in combination with estrogens. It is taken by mouth. Side effects of dienogest include menstrual irregularities, headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, depression, and acne, among others.

Noréthistérone
La noréthistérone est un progestatif de synthèse utilisé dans certaines pilules combinées et certaines pilules progestatives, et pour retarder les menstruations. La noréthistérone n'est pas encore distribuée en France, mais est depuis plusieurs années disponible sur ordonnance dans de nombreux pays européens comme l'Allemagne, l'Italie, la Belgique, ainsi qu'aux États-Unis. L'effet permet de retenir la muqueuse utérine dans l'utérus.
Progesterone (medication)
Progesterone (P4) is a medication and naturally occurring steroid hormone. It is a progestogen and is used in combination with estrogens mainly in hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms and low sex hormone levels in women. It is also used in women to support pregnancy and fertility and to treat gynecological disorders. Progesterone can be taken by mouth, vaginally, and by injection into muscle or fat, among other routes. A progesterone vaginal ring and progesterone intrauterine device used for birth control also exist in some areas of the world.
Acétate de médroxyprogestérone
L’acétate de médroxyprogestérone (en anglais Medroxyprogesterone acetate ou MPA), connu aussi sous le nom acétate de 17α-hydroxy-6α-méthylprogestérone, ou Depo-Provera est une forme synthétique de progestérone. Il est utilisé principalement comme contraceptif mais sert aussi pour le traitement de l'endométriose. Ses actions pharmacologiques sur le système endocrinien sont : L'inhibition des gonadotrophines hypophysaires : hormone folliculostimulante (FSH) et hormone lutéinisante (LH).
Hormone replacement therapy
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), also known as menopausal hormone therapy or postmenopausal hormone therapy, is a form of hormone therapy used to treat symptoms associated with female menopause. These symptoms can include hot flashes, vaginal atrophy, accelerated skin aging, vaginal dryness, decreased muscle mass, sexual dysfunction, and bone loss or osteoporosis. They are in large part related to the diminished levels of sex hormones that occur during menopause. Estrogens and progestogens are the main hormone drugs used in HRT.
Premarin (médicament)
Le Premarin est un médicament à base d'œstrogènes conjugués, utilisé pour traiter les troubles de la ménopause chez la femme. Son nom vient de l'anglais pregnant mare urine désignant l'ingrédient principal, l'urine de jument gestante. Il a été mis sur le marché pour la première fois par l’entreprise Pfizer en 1941. D'autres médicaments utilisent des œstrogènes conjugués d'origine équine, comme le Premplus, commercialisé par le même entreprise, le Climopax et le Duavive.
Estradiol valerate
Estradiol valerate (EV), sold for use by mouth under the brand name Progynova and Primiwal E4 and for use by injection under the brand names Delestrogen and Progynon Depot among others, is an estrogen medication. It is used in hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms and low estrogen levels, hormone therapy for transgender people, and in hormonal birth control. It is also used in the treatment of prostate cancer. The medication is taken by mouth or by injection into muscle or fat once every 1 to 4 weeks.
Ethisterone
Ethisterone, also known as ethinyltestosterone, pregneninolone, and anhydrohydroxyprogesterone and formerly sold under the brand names Proluton C and Pranone among others, is a progestin medication which was used in the treatment of gynecological disorders but is now no longer available. It was used alone and was not formulated in combination with an estrogen. The medication is taken by mouth. Side effects of ethisterone include masculinization among others.
