Manvinder "Vindi" Singh Banga is an Indian-born British global business leader with experience in Chair, CEO and Board roles. These roles range across the B2C and B2B spaces, from FMCG, Retail, Manufacturing and Business Services sectors, in both Public Markets and Private Equity, Government, and Not-for-Profit sectors. He is Chair of the UK Government Investments (UKGI) the governance and corporate finance arm of the UK Government. Vindi was born in 1954 in Simla (then in the state of Punjab) into a Sikh family. The son of Lt.Gen. Harbhajan Singh Banga, a decorated General in the Indian Army, and his wife, Jaswant. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 1975 and did BTech degree in mechanical engineering. He earned a master in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM-A). Vindi was awarded the Gold Medal at both institutes. Prior to his higher education, Vindi was educated at several schools throughout India due to his father's military career, and graduated with an ISC qualification from Delhi Public School. Banga worked for Unilever for 33 years. He served as the Chairman and Chief executive officer of Hindustan Unilever, whose market cap is about 60% of the market cap of Unilever. Having been responsible for Unilever’s fastest growing region, Asia, in 2005, Banga was elevated to the Unilever Executive, where he was responsible as the global head of Foods, Home & personal Care effectively running all of Unilever’s categories across the globe. He was also responsible for their sustainability initiative. Banga joined the global private equity firm, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice LLP in 2010. A Senior Partner, he has chaired several companies including Diversey, Inc. and Mauser GmbH, and been on the boards of B&M Retail, Kalle GmbH, etc. He is Chair of CD&R’s ESG Council and leads the firm’s initiatives in this space. Vindi has been the Senior Independent Director on the Boards of GlaxoSmithKline plc, Marks & Spencer plc, and a Non-Executive Director at the Thomson Reuters Group and Maruti (Suzuki) Ltd.
