Shoscombe

Shoscombe is a small village and civil parish in the valley of the Wellow Brook in north-east Somerset, about south of Bath, England. The parish has a population of 443. From 23 September 1929 until the line closed on 7 March 1966, Shoscombe had a railway station, Shoscombe and Single Hill Halt, on the main line of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Shoscombe School is a Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, in a grade II listed building. Governance The parish council has responsibility for local issues, including setting an annual precept (local rate) to cover the council’s operating costs and producing annual accounts for public scrutiny. The parish council evaluates local planning applications and works with the local police, district council officers, and neighbourhood watch groups on matters of crime, security, and traffic. The parish council's role also includes initiating projects for the maintenance and repair of parish facilities
