Upton Noble

Upton Noble is a village and civil parish on the River Frome. It is roughly north-east of Bruton, and from Frome town centre, in the Mendip district of Somerset, England. There was a 17th-century village pub called The Lamb Inn (now closed), a village hall, a primary school, a church, a post office and a garage. History The parish was also known as Upton Caboche in the 14th century. The first part of the name means the upper settlement, the second part is from the family of Sir John le Noble who held the manor in the 13th century. Governance The parish council has responsibility for local issues, including setting an annual precept (local rate) to cover the council's operating costs and producing annual accounts for public scrutiny. The parish council evaluates local planning applications and works with the local police, district council officers, and neighbourhood watch groups on matters of crime, security, and traffic.
