L'intégrale d'Itô, appelée en l'honneur du mathématicien Kiyoshi Itô, est un des outils fondamentaux du calcul stochastique. Elle a d'importantes applications en mathématique financière et pour la résolution des équations différentielles stochastiques.
Le calcul est l’étude des phénomènes aléatoires dépendant du temps. À ce titre, c'est une extension de la théorie des probabilités. Ne pas confondre avec la technique des calculateurs stochastiques. Le domaine d’application du calcul stochastique comprend la mécanique quantique, le traitement du signal, la chimie, les mathématiques financières, la météorologie et même la musique. Un processus aléatoire est une famille de variables aléatoires indexée par un sous-ensemble de ou , souvent assimilé au temps (voir aussi Processus stochastique).

En géométrie, la divergence d'un champ de vecteurs est un opérateur différentiel mesurant le défaut de conservation du volume sous l'action du flot de ce champ.
L'opérateur laplacien, ou simplement le laplacien, est l'opérateur différentiel défini par l'application de l'opérateur gradient suivie de l'application de l'opérateur divergence : Intuitivement, il combine et relie la description statique d'un champ (décrit par son gradient) aux effets dynamiques (la divergence) de ce champ dans l'espace et le temps. C'est l'exemple le plus simple et le plus répandu d'opérateur elliptique.
En mathématiques, et plus précisément en analyse, un opérateur différentiel est un opérateur agissant sur des fonctions différentiables. Lorsque la fonction est à une seule variable, l'opérateur différentiel est construit à partir des dérivées ordinaires. Lorsque la fonction est à plusieurs variables, l'opérateur différentiel est construit à partir des dérivées partielles. Un opérateur différentiel agissant sur deux fonctions est appelé opérateur bidifférentiel.
