Observation of the decay B-s(0) -> (D)over-bar(0)K (+) K-

The first observation of the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- decay is reported, together with the most precise branching fraction measurement of the mode B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- The results are obtained from an analysis of pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1). The data were collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, The branching fraction of the B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- decay is measured relative to that of the decay B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-) to be B(B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-)/B(B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-)) =(69 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.3)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The measured branching fraction of the B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- decay mode relative to that of the corresponding B-0 decay is B(B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-)/B(B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-) = (93.0 +/- 809 +/- 6.9)%. Using the known branching fraction of B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-), the values of B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- = (6.1 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.3) x 10(-5) and B(B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K- = (5.7 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.5) x 10(-5) are obtained, where the third uncertainties arise from the branching fraction of the decay modes B-0 -> (D) over bar (0)pi (+) pi(-) and B-0 -> (D) over bar K-0 (+) K-, respectively.

Luminosité

En astronomie, la luminosité est la quantité totale d'énergie émise par unité de temps (le flux énergétique), par une étoile, une galaxie, ou n'importe quel autre objet céleste. Elle s'exprime en pratique en luminosité solaire ( = ). Radioactivité β

La radioactivité β, radioactivité bêta ou émission bêta (symbole β) est, à l'origine, un type de désintégration radioactive dans laquelle une particule bêta (un électron ou un positon) est émise. LHCb

LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty experiment : Expérience du LHC sur le quark beauté) est une expérience de physique des particules utilisant les collisions de protons produites au collisionneur LHC du CERN (Genève). Ce détecteur est spécialisé dans la physique des saveurs et la recherche de nouvelle physique par des méthodes indirectes comme la mesure de violation de la symétrie CP ou de taux d'embranchement de décroissances rares. Le détecteur LHCb se trouve sur la commune de Ferney-Voltaire en France au point 8 du LHC, à quelques mètres de la frontière suisse.

A search for the rare decay B-0 -> J/psi phi, is performed using pp collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). No significant signal of the decay is observed and an upper limit of 1.1 x 10(-7) at 90% confidence level is set on the branching fraction.

Observation of CP violation in two-body B-(s)(0)-meson decays to charged pions and kaons

The time-dependent CP asymmetries of B-0 -> pi(+)pi(-) and B-s(0) -> K+K- decays are measured using a data sample of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The results are C-pi pi = 0.311 +/- 0.045 +/- 0.015; S-pi pi = 0.706 +/- 0.042 +/- 0.013; C-KK = 0.164 +/- 0.034 +/- 0.014; S-KK = 0.123 +/- 0.034 +/- 0.015; A(KK)(Delta Gamma) = -0.83 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.09; where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The same data sample is used to measure the time-integrated CP asymmetries of B-0 -> K + pi(-) and B-s(0) -> K-pi(+) decays and the results are AB(CP)(B0) = -0.0824 +/- 0.0033 +/- 0.0033; A(CP)(Bs0) = 0.236 +/- 0.013 +/- 0.011. All results are consistent with earlier measurements. A combination of LHCb measurements provides the first observation of time-dependent CP violation in B-s(0) decays.

Search for heavy neutral leptons in W plus . mu plus mu +/- jet decays

A search is performed for heavy neutrinos in the decay of a W boson into two muons and a jet. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 3.0 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV collected with the LHCb experiment. Both same-sign and opposite-signmuons in the final state are considered. Data are found to be consistent with the expected background. Upper limits on the coupling of a heavy neutrino with the Standard Model neutrino are set at 95% confidence level in the heavy-neutrino mass range from 5 to 50GeV/c2. These are of the order of 10(-3) for lepton-number-conserving decays and of the order of 10(-4) for lepton-number-violating heavy-neutrino decays.
