Résumé

Dynamic glacier fracture and the subsequent generation and propagation of iceberg-induced tsunamis are reproduced using a unified numerical glacier-ocean model, in line with observations at the Eqip Sermia glacier in Greenland, as well as laboratory experiments.

Ice calving, also known as glacier calving or iceberg calving, is the breaking of ice chunks from the edge of a glacier. It is a form of ice ablation or ice disruption. It is the sudden release and breaking away of a mass of ice from a glacier, iceberg, ice front, ice shelf, or crevasse. The ice that breaks away can be classified as an iceberg, but may also be a growler, bergy bit, or a crevasse wall breakaway. Calving of glaciers is often accompanied by a loud cracking or booming sound before blocks of ice up to high break loose and crash into the water.

Inlandsis du Groenland

L'inlandsis du Groenland est un inlandsis recouvrant , soit 80 % du territoire du Groenland. C'est la deuxième plus grande masse de glace sur Terre après l'inlandsis de l'Antarctique, présente sur le Groenland depuis au moins d'années. Elle se réchauffe, fond et s'allège ; et en 2020, il a plu sur l'inlandsis pour la première fois de mémoire d'Homme. La calotte polaire arctique se met en place à la fin du Miocène, entre d'années. L'origine de sa formation fait l'objet de débat.
