This lecture covers the design of retaining walls, focusing on the resultant of actions such as thrust, overloads, water pressure, and thrust redistribution. Topics include calculation methods, safety considerations, soil-structure interaction, and different calculation approaches. It also discusses the principles of determining actions, compatibility with soil deformations, and the mobilization of active and passive states. Various methods for handling surcharges, including semi-empirical methods, Boussinesq solutions, and methods by Grau and Krey, are explained. Special indications for minimum earth pressures in fine soils and the redistribution of thrust are also addressed.
