This lecture introduces a 'professional' 3D measurement system, the Faro Freestyle 2, used to measure stones and extract key features like dimensions, volume, and surface area. The device employs stereo photogrammetry, structured light, and time-of-flight technologies to achieve high accuracy and point density. The lecture covers the device's performance specifications, including range, accuracy, point density, acquisition rate, and lighting conditions. Students will learn how to manipulate the point cloud data using Python, numpy, and open3d, and visualize it with MeshLab. The session also includes discussions on measuring performance and conducting reasonable tests.
