This lecture covers the interaction of radiation with matter, including direct and indirectly ionizing radiation, nuclear reactions, reaction rate, cross section, and typical cross sections for various particles. It also discusses the photoelectric effect, Compton scattering, pair production, light energy spectrum, and interaction processes of X and gamma rays. The lecture further explores neutron interactions, nuclear reactions with incident neutrons, energy balance of nuclear reactions, radiative neutron capture, and the use of gold as a metrological standard. The concepts of fission reactions, fissile and fertile isotopes, and the conclusion on the interaction with matter are also presented.
