This lecture covers the fundamentals of transplantation immunology, including the different types of grafts such as autografts, isografts, allografts, and xenografts. It delves into the history of transplantation, the immunological mechanisms of allograft rejection, the role of T cells, major histocompatibility complex (MHC), and the importance of MHC matching. The lecture also discusses the induction of immune responses against transplants, the mechanisms of graft rejection, and the clinical manifestations of graft rejections. Furthermore, it explores bone marrow transplantation, graft-versus-host disease, and the therapeutic aspects of GVHD. Various strategies to prevent graft rejection and treat complications are also presented.
