This lecture covers the introduction to carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism, the concept of general energy balance, the homeostasis of blood glucose over time, the role of the pancreas in glucose homeostasis, the function of the pancreatic islets, the interaction between cellular receptors and insulin, and the storage and mobilization of fats influenced by insulin. It also discusses the role of Glucagon-like Peptide-1 in glycemic control, the function of lipoprotein lipase in white adipose tissue, and the hormonal control of food intake and hunger.
