The Weigert Group at EPFL focuses on image-based machine-learning approaches to extract quantitative biological information from microscopy images. They develop new computer vision methods tailored to biological questions, including object detection and segmentation, computational microscopy, and self-supervised learning. Their recent work includes developing a deep learning nuclei segmentation method for histopathology images and a self-supervised pre-training method for live-cell microscopy videos. Collaborating with other groups, they have created segmentation methods to extract cell organelles' shape and location within pancreatic beta cells from electron microscopy images.
