In 1999, he left Europe for three years, taking advantage of the clear skies of Chile to carry out his research using the brand new Very Large Telescope, constructed by Europe in the Atacama desert. In 2004, after two years of a Marie Curie fellowship at the University of Liège, he joint the Laboratory of Astrophysics, where he is now Professor. His main fields of activity are in observational cosmology and extragalactic astrophysics as well as in image and signal processing. In 2018, he was awarded an ERC Advanced Grant in connection with his work in cosmology with gravitational lenses. At EPFL, he is a member of the committee for the Physics Doctoral School since 2013 and has been the tutor of more than 30 PhD students. He is a member of the EPFL Council for the Faculty of Basic Sciences since 2018 and a member of the School Assembly since 2020.

Pierre BremaudDe nationalité française, né a Gao (Soudan Français/Mali), Pierre Brémaud est ancien élève de lEcole Polytechnique de Paris, et détenteur dun doctorat de lUniversité de Californie à Berkeley, Etats-Unis, en «Electrical Engineering and Computer Science» il est également Docteur ès Sciences Mathématiques de lUniversité de Paris 6. Il a successivement dirigé plusieurs groupes de recherche dans le secteur des signaux et systèmes, de la théorie des communications et de la modélisation stochastique. Directeur du Centre de Recherches de lEcole Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées (ENSTA) de 1979 à 1985 à Paris, il a été, en parallèle, maître de conférences au département de mathématiques appliquées de lEcole Polytechnique (1985-1997) et chef du département de mathématiques de lENSTA (1981-1995). M. Brémaud est éditeur associé de plusieurs revues internationales M. Brémaud enseigne à lEPFL un des trois cours fondamentaux de lécole doctorale en Systèmes de communications. Il compte utiliser sa double formation en mathématiques et en génie électrique pour développer en interaction avec ses collègues un enseignement avancé en modélisation stochastique pour les systèmes de communications. Ses intérêts en recherche concernent la théorie des processus stochastiques (processus ponctuels et files dattente) et ses applications au filtrage, au contrôle stochastique, à lévaluation des performances des réseaux de communications, et aux systèmes à événements discrets. Il développe actuellement la théorie des processus de Hawkes linéaires et non linéaires (réseaux stochastiques de «neurones» du type Hopfield), et étudie les modèles du type «saut noise» à la fois comme modèles de trafic dans les réseaux, et comme modèles dans lanalyse des risques dans les assurances.
Amir Roshan ZamirAmir Zamir is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Prior to EPFL, he spent time at Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UCF. His research interests are broadly in computer vision, machine learning, perception-for-robotics, and AI. He has been recognized with CVPR (2018) Best Paper Award, CVPR (2016) Best Student Paper Award, CVPR (2020) Best Paper Award Nomination, and NVIDIA Pioneering Research Award (2018), among others. His research has been covered by various press outlets, such as The New York Times or Forbes.
