An international standard is a technical standard developed by one or more international standards organizations. International standards are available for consideration and use worldwide. Implementation of 8-bit Coded Character Sets in Ada

A general frame is proposed for implementing 8-bit coded character sets in Ada in conformance with current international standards. This frame is then applied to what is termed Latin alphabet No. 1 which covers Western European languages. Also shown is how the basic needs for text input-output can be satisfied by generalizing the predefined package TEXT_IO.

Frequency Analysis of Finite Steel Cylinders and their Comparison to Complex Cylinder-like Targets using an Electromagnetic Induction Sensor

This paper shows that the standard industrial targets that need to be detected using an electromagnetic induction sensor cannot be represented by their exact size definition in international standards. Reinforcing steel with defined 16mm diameter according to the DIN norm is analyzed using a finite element harmonic electromagnetic computational model. The response was compared to pure cylindrical shape targets in order to find the correction in a diameter that needs to be used instead. The complex-shaped target of defined standard diameter must be modeled using larger diameter when using perfectly round cylinders in computational models depending on the frequency used and depth of this target.

The accurate measurement of synchrophasors in static and dynamic power network conditions represents one of the main requirements of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). International Standards (i.e. the IEEE C37.118) are quickly evolving to drive the technological evolution of these intelligent electronic devices. In this respect, the paper presents an interpolated-DFT based synchrophasor-estimation algorithm that has been designed to meet the accuracy requirements of classes P and M defined in the recent IEEE Std C37.118-2011-1. Together with the analytical description of the main aspects of the proposed synchrophasor estimation algorithm, the paper also presents its implementation inside an FPGA-based PMU prototype. The paper finally shows and discusses some of the compliance tests of the proposed PMU prototype with respect to the above standard.
