Summary

A world map is a map of most or all of the surface of Earth. World maps, because of their scale, must deal with the problem of projection. Maps rendered in two dimensions by necessity distort the display of the three-dimensional surface of the earth. While this is true of any map, these distortions reach extremes in a world map. Many techniques have been developed to present world maps that address diverse technical and aesthetic goals. Charting a world map requires global knowledge of the earth, its oceans, and its continents. From prehistory through the Middle ages, creating an accurate world map would have been impossible because less than half of Earth's coastlines and only a small fraction of its continental interiors were known to any culture. With exploration that began during the European Renaissance, knowledge of the Earth's surface accumulated rapidly, such that most of the world's coastlines had been mapped, at least roughly, by the mid-1700s and the continental interiors

This course teaches how to apply exploratory spatial data analysis to health data. Teaching focuses on the basics of spatial statistics and of epidemiology, and proposes a context to analyse geodatasets making it possible to study the relationship between health and the environment.

The course teaches the basics of autonomous mobile robots. Both hardware (energy, locomotion, sensors) and software (signal processing, control, localization, trajectory planning, high-level control) will be tackled. The students will apply the knowledge to program and control a real mobile robot.

This course gives an introduction to the fundamental concepts and methods of the Digital Humanities, both from a theoretical and applied point of view. The course introduces the Digital Humanities circle of processing and interpretation, from data acquisition to new understandings.

Automatic Calibration of Ultra Wide Band Tracking Systems Using A Mobile Robot: A Person Localization Case-study

Ultra Wide Band (UWB) is an emerging technology in the field of indoor localization, mainly due to its high performances in indoor scenarios and relatively easy deployment. However, in complex indoor environments, its positioning accuracy may drastically decrease due to biases introduced when emitters and receivers operate in Non Line-of-Sight (NLOS) conditions. This undesired phenomenon can be attenuated by creating, a priori, a map of the measurement error in the environment, that can be exploited at a later stage by a localization algorithm. In this paper, the error map is the result of a calibration process, which consists of collecting several measurements of the localization system at different locations in the environment. This work proposes the leveraging of mobile robots in order to automatize the calibration process with the ultimate purpose of improving UWB-based people localization in a realistic indoor environment. The whole process exploits existing algorithms in the field of robot localization conveniently adapted in order to address our use case and technology. Experiments in real environments of incrementally increasing complexity show how the average localization accuracy can be improved up to 50% by adopting this method.

The present invention relates to a system (10) for planning and/or providing neurostimulation for a patient, comprising: - a pathological spinal cord map storage module (48) for storing at least one pathological spinal cord map (49) describing the activation of the spinal cord of a patient, - a healthy spinal cord map storage module (50) for storing at least one reference map (51) describing physiological activation of the spinal cord of at least one healthy subject, - an analysis module (42) configured and arranged such that the pathological spinal cord map and the reference map can be compared and/or analyzed automatically such that a deviation map is created, the deviation map describing the difference between the pathological spinal cord map and the reference map, and a compensation module (52) which is configured and arranged to calculate on the basis of the deviation map a neurostimulation protocol for compensating the activation. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for planning and/or providing neurostimulation for a patient.
