This lecture discusses the use of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) for restoring gait function in individuals with spinal cord injury and stroke. The instructor presents studies on BCI-controlled walking in virtual reality and with a robotic gait orthosis, highlighting the importance of intuitive and robust design. The feasibility of brain-controlled overground walking is explored, showing promising results in individuals with paraplegia. Additionally, the lecture covers BCI-FES therapy for stroke rehabilitation and proposes a fully implantable BCI system for walking and leg sensation restoration, emphasizing the advantages of invasive recording and wireless transmission.
