This lecture introduces a MATLAB toolbox for simulating shoulder and elbow movements, focusing on over-actuated and redundant kinematics. It discusses the challenges in designing efficient shoulder implants and the importance of musculoskeletal models. Various existing shoulder models and their applications are explored, along with the objective of extending an existing model for patient-specific clinical applications. The lecture covers aspects such as humeral-head translations, EMG-assisted load-sharing, and motion reconstructions, aiming to improve predictions of muscle co-contractions. Conclusions highlight the development of a scaled-generic Matlab toolbox for modeling shoulder and elbow movements, emphasizing strengths and limitations.
