Measurement of CP violation and the B-s(0) meson decay width difference with B-s(0) -> J/psi K+K- and B-s(0) -> J/psi pi(+) pi(-)decays

The time-dependent CP asymmetry in B-s(0) -> J/psi K+ K- decays is measured using pp collision data at root s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1: 0 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector. The decay-time distribution is characterized by the decay widths Gamma(L) and Gamma(H) of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B-s(0) - (B) over barB(s)(0) system and by a CP-violating phase s. In a sample of 27 617 B-s(0) -> J/psi K+ K- decays, where the dominant contribution comes from B-s(0) -> J/psi K+ K- decays, these parameters are measured to be phi(s) = 0. 07 +/- 0.09(stat) +/- 0. 01(syst) rad, Gamma(s) equivalent to (Gamma(L) + Gamma(L))/2 = 0.663 +/- 0.005(stat) +/- 0.006(syst) ps(-1), and 0.006(syst) ps(-1), and Delta Gamma(s) equivalent to Gamma(L) - Gamma(L) = 0.100 +/- 0.016(stat) +/- 0.003(syst) ps(-1), corresponding to the single most precise determination of phi(s), Delta Gamma(s), and Gamma(s.). The result of performing a combined analysis with B-s(0) -> J/psi pi(+) pi(-) decays gives phi(s) = 0.01 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.01(syst)rad, Gamma(s) = 0.661 +/- 0.004(stat) +/- 0.006(syst) ps(-1), and Delta Gamma(s) = 0.106 +/- 0.011(stat) +/- 0.007(syst) ps(-1). All measurements are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions.

The time-dependent CP asymmetry in B-S(0) -> J/Psi K+K- decays is measured using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. In a sample of 96 000 B-S(0) -> J/Psi K+K- decays, the CP-violating phase phi(s) is measured, as well as the decay widths GL and GH of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B-s(0)-(B) over bar (0)(s) system. The values obtained are phi(s) = -0.058 +/- 0.049 +/- 0.006 rad, Gamma(s) equivalent to (Gamma(L) + Gamma(H))/2 = 0.6603 +/- 0.0027 +/- 0.0015 ps(-1), and Delta Gamma(s) equivalent to Gamma(L)-Gamma(H) = 0.0805 +/- 0.0091 +/- 0.0032 ps(-1), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second, systematic. These are the most precise single measurements of those quantities to date. A combined analysis with B-s(0) -> J/Psi pi(+)pi(-) decays gives phi(s) = -0.010 +/- 0.039 rad. All measurements are in agreement with the standard model predictions. For the first time, the phase phi(s) is measured independently for each polarization state of the K+K- system and shows no evidence for polarization dependence.

A combination of three LHCb measurements of the CKM angle gamma is presented. The decays B-+/- -> DK +/- and B-+/- -> D pi(+/-) are used, where D denotes an admixture of D-0 and (D) over bar (0) mesons, decaying into K+K-, pi(+)pi(-), K-+/-pi(-/+), K-+/-pi(-/+)pi(+/-)pi(-/+), or K-S(0)pi(+)pi(-) final states. All measurements use a dataset corresponding to 1.0 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. Combining results from B-+/- -> DK +/- Dill decays alone a best-fit value of gamma = 72.0 degrees is found, and confidence intervals are set gamma is an element of [56.4, 86.7]degrees at 68% CL, gamma is an element of [42.6, 99.6]degrees at 95% CL. The best-fit value of gamma found from a combination of results from B-+/- -> D pi(+/-) decays alone, is gamma = 18.9 degrees, and the confidence intervals gamma is an element of [7.4, 99.2]degrees boolean OR [167.9, 176.4]degrees at 68% CL are set, without constraint at 95% CL The combination of results from B1 DKI and B -> DTC decays gives a best-fit value of y = 72.6 degrees and the confidence intervals gamma is an element of [55.4, 82.3]degrees at 68% CL, gamma is an element of [40.2, 92.7]degrees at 95% CL are set. A search for CP violation in the phase-space structures of 130 and 15 decays to the final states K-K+pi(-)pi(+) and pi(-)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) is presented. The search is carried out with a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1) collected in 2011 by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. For the K-K+pi(-)pi(+) final state, the four-body phase space is divided into 32 bins, each bin with approximately 1800 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 9.1%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 6.5% observed. The phase space of the pi(-)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-). final state is partitioned into 128 bins, each bin with approximately 2500 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 41%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 5.5% observed.
